Searchable

Now are we done?

Yes and no. You have your site, anyone that knows the name can find it. Anyone that does not know the name cannot. Now we need to get your site indexed by all the search engines. You have to do this one at a time, I just hit all the major engines and the rest cascade from there. The major ones are Google, MSN, Yahoo, Ask, and AOL; and there is the whole topic of Search Engine Optimization. This can be a whole new topic and I will expand upon it at a later date. Suffice to say that you can no longer do the things that used to work back in 1999 and 2000 in order to get your web site to pop up near the top of a chosen search. Keywords and phrases are still important, but most search engines do not use the Keyword Meta tags like they used to. Now finding a web site and ranking high on a search is a lot like real estate, CONTENT, CONTENT, CONTENT where real estate is LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION, but you do need much more than just content. Like I said this is a whole topic and volumes of books have been written about it. There are sole efforts and professions that are dedicated to this art and science. I will work on writing this up at a later date but I will only scratch the surface.

I highly suggest that once you get your site up, you start researching how to get your site to show up in searches. It does take time, what you learn and place into practice on your web site today will not show up for several weeks or even months on most search engines. This is due to pure volume. The spiders and robots search every site and index everything daily, world wide, so be patient. If you are not popping as high as you would like in a few months, come back and tweak some more.

This brings me to my last point for now, your site must be updated regularly or the search robots and spiders will deem your content irrelevant. For that you need a practice of adding content or other changes to keep your site fresh. A fresh site is a highly indexed site. This means using the knowledge you have gained through launching your site and spending the time it takes to update your site from time to time with new content. Another reason to consider a professional to manage your site. Web sites are time consuming, both in preparation, staying up to date, de-bugging and adding of content, just be prepared and go slowly if you decide to build your own site.
